The 1967 Camaro - Chevrolet's answer to the Mustang.
The Mustang was all new for 1967, inside and out. Sales momentum for the Mustang was still strong with more than 472,000 produced. That more than doubles the 220,906 for the Camaro and you have to wonder if Ford could have moved 3/4 of million Mustangs in 1967 had Chevrolet not accepted the challenge. For the enthusiast in need of a power fix in 1967 the choice was clear; get out of the corral and buy a Chevy.
The Camaro had 7 engines available - all of them more powerful than the Mustang's. Base engine, small block, big block - none could hang with the Camaro. Even the top performance 320 HP 390 was no match for a big block Camaro. At 325 HP the L35 396 was rated only 5 HP more but the thrust this engine made in the little Chevy would put any Mustang out to pasture.

My take on the '67 Camaro is simple; a clean design with a killer choice of engines, all of which responded well to mods adds up to a knock out car then and now. A car completely capable of puttin' the hurt on Ford's pretty pony.
